Sowell Gray’s Tyson elected to South Carolina Bar House of Delegates

tyson_pr_webRob Tyson, of Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC, has been selected to serve a term in the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates.

Tyson was appointed to the House in 2008 and 2009 as a representative of the Government Law Section. This month he was elected by his peers to represent South Carolina’s 5th Judicial Circuit, which is composed of Richland and Kershaw counties. (more…)

Beard joins national organization that honors workers’ compensation lawyers

Grady_BeardCOLUMBIA, SC – Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte LLC member Grady Beard has become a fellow in The College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers, an organization that seeks out the best workers’ compensation attorneys in the country.

Beard was officially inducted in March, during the American Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation Mid-Winter Conference. He became the first attorney to represent South Carolina in the organization. (more…)

The publication is an internationally recognized guide to the legal profession.

Six Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte members named “Super Lawyers”

Six members of Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC have been named to the 2010 list of South Carolina Super Lawyers®, with three of them ranking among the top 25 in the state.

Biff Sowell, Betsy Gray, Bobby Stepp, Becky Laffitte, Cal Watson and Monty Todd were listed in the annual publication, which is distributed across the United States and reaches more than 13 million readers. It’s the third consecutive year that the six have earned Super Lawyer designations. (more…)

Hill joins Richland County Bar Association Executive Committee

Amy B. Hill, an attorney with Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, has been elected to the Richland County Bar Association Executive Committee.

Hill has co-chaired committees for the South Carolina Bar Young Lawyer’s Division and currently serves on the South Carolina Bar Professional Responsibility Committee and Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee.  She is a 20007 graduate of Leadership Columbia. (more…)

Bess DuRant Joins Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC

Bess DuRant has joined Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte as an associate.

A 2009 cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law, DuRant was a member of the Editorial Board for the South Carolina Law Review  and had an article published in the review. She also was a member of Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity. DuRant holds a bachelor’s degree in politics with special attainment in commerce from Washington and Lee University. Two Sowell Gray Members Certified as Circuit Court Mediators

Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte LLC members Cal Watson and Grady Beard have been certified as Circuit Court Mediators by the South Carolina Board of Arbitrator and Mediator Certification.

Mediation is a process in which an impartial, neutral third-person helps two or more parties resolve their dispute or conflict. As mediators, Cal and Grady will help disputants reach resolution of their problems and will also assist the parties in discussing and resolving their differences. (more…)

Sowell Gray Lawyers Take to the Streets to Help Keep Columbia Clean

They traded suits and ties for shorts and T-shirts for a good cause recently, when the staff of Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte hit the streets to clean up downtown Columbia.

Armed with trash bags, the 18 people patrolled six blocks of Lady Street in the city’s historic Vista district as part of the firm’s commitment to the Keep The Midlands Beautiful program. (more…)
