B. Gibbs Leaphart Jr., an associate with Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, has been honored as a “Star of the Quarter” for his work with the South Carolina Bar Young Lawyers Division.
Leaphart, who toured the Southeast as a bass guitarist with the band Five Way Friday before attending law school, has served since 2008 as co-chair of the division’s “Justice Jam Committee.” (more…)
COLUMBIA, SC – Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC attorney Nicolas L. Haigler has joined the board of directors of Leadership Columbia, a program that helps up-and-coming business people connect more deeply with their community.
Haigler was a member of Leadership Columbia’s Class of 2010, as well as recipient of the Glenn Jacobus Award. That honor, which is awarded after a class vote, goes to the person who consistently exhibits outstanding leadership through out the year. (more…)

Rob Tyson, of Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC, has been selected to serve a term in the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates.
Tyson was appointed to the House in 2008 and 2009 as a representative of the Government Law Section. This month he was elected by his peers to represent South Carolina’s 5th Judicial Circuit, which is composed of Richland and Kershaw counties. (more…)
COLUMBIA, SC – Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte LLC member Grady Beard has become a fellow in The College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers, an organization that seeks out the best workers’ compensation attorneys in the country.
Beard was officially inducted in March, during the American Bar Association’s Workers’ Compensation Mid-Winter Conference. He became the first attorney to represent South Carolina in the organization. (more…)

Amy B. Hill, an attorney with Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, has been elected to the Richland County Bar Association Executive Committee.

Bess DuRant has joined Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte as an associate.
A 2009 cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law, DuRant was a member of the Editorial Board for the South Carolina Law Review and had an article published in the review. She also was a member of Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity. DuRant holds a bachelor’s degree in politics with special attainment in commerce from Washington and Lee University.
